The Carnival midway is full of interactive art installations, sideshow acts, roving performers, arts & crafts, and a dozen midway games that use play and humor to educate. With activities for children and adults, we draw upon the legacy of “Carnival” and invite everyone into a topsy turvy space where we can question dominant norms and creatively inhabit an alternative narrative for our world.

August 3rd, 7 pm

at Arch St United Methodist Church 55 N Broad St., Philadelphia, PA

This evening of theater weaves music, dance, storytelling, and circus arts to highlight the power of Earth and Air in our ancient and contemporary stories of resistance. This show features loud-mouthed “Raven,” mute “Dove,” and the “Voice of the Cedars” in poetic soliloquies about the gift of creation and in prophetic rants against its destruction. The evening will end in a live drum and dance party. Opening acts start at 7 pm! More info coming soon!

  • Pickles, Pedals & Paint

Wednesday, August 1st, from 2 pm to 6 pm

Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden (2251 N Philip St, Philadelphia, PA)

Skillshare teachings will include hands on workshops and demonstrations on DIY energy alternatives (e.g. how to make a hand crank laundry machine), gardening and home-steading skills (fermentation & composting), beginner’s Bicycle Repair, and the collaborative construction of a large concrete sculpture for the garden. This event will culminate in a community meal and musical offerings throughout the evening. We will be joined by the Jewish Farm School and other local groups. More info coming soon!

  • Wade Through Deep Water

  • Carnival Production

July 28th, 7 pm
August 4th, 7 pm

at Arch St United Methodist Church 55 N Broad St., Philadelphia, PA

This evening of theater weaves music, dance, and circus arts to highlight the power of Water in our personal and collective journeys of transformation. Featuring Miriam, the unabashed prophetess of water within the hebrew scriptures, and John the Baptist, who calls all to a “dirty baptism” so that we may feel the pain of the water and be drawn back to our Source. Once again, our productions will end in a live drum and dance party. The local opening acts start at 7.

  • Power Toward a Just Future! Parade and Rally

August 2nd

11 am meet at PECO headquarters, 2301 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19103-1338, United States

12:30 pm rally at City Hall

In collaboration with Green Justice Philly, a coalition of local eco-justice groups, we are planning a colorful spectacle to raise public awareness about the solarization of Philadelphia and to press the city to integrate social justice goals into its transition to renewable energy. • Carnival Church

Sunday, July 29th at 11 am

at Arch St United Methodist Church 55 N Broad St., Philadelphia, PA

We will worship with the brave and thriving community of Arch St UMC that is so generously hosting us. Focusing on ecological justice and radical solidarity with historically oppressed and marginalized communities, we will share cross-cultural musical offerings, full-bellied songs, litanies, poems, prayers, and dance offerings. This worship event does not include spectacle (there are no stilt walkers, etc) but does contain topsy turvy elements which will help us all re-center on the gift of God’s creation and the call to live in right relationship with it.

  • Mural Painting & Youth Programs

All Week Long!

The Carnival Crew will be engaging with Norris Square Neighborhood Project to paint a mural, work in gardens, and support their summer youth program. Creative workshops include drumming, theater, art & crafts, and restorative circles. More info coming soon!
